A government community health centre that caters to the needs of the common man around the village. Has an inpatient block with close to 30 bed strength. Manned by a group of able and efficient doctors, nurses and supporting staff, most of the common ailments are dealt with here. Those falling under the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category put forth by the government get treatment absolutely free, including costly antibiotics (oral and parenteral), insulin, and a range of other drugs. The pharmacy is even equipped with Tamiflu (Oseltamivir), the drug against the dreaded influenza virus, H1N1. It also maintains a full fledged stock of vaccines for immunisation programmes conducted every Wednesday. The unique attraction is a floating dispensary, which is virtually a hospital on water, equipped with a doctor, a nurse, a pharmacist and a well stocked pharmacy. It takes care of the health needs of the inland Kuttanad areas, many of which have limited access to land by road. The inpatients in the hospital are assessed on a daily basis, and since there is an efficient link with the Government Medical College, Allepey, the critically ill patients are easily referrred at the right time in the hospitals own ambulance.
